Don's Monthly Message: The Repeatable Process
It is through repetition that you gain your expertise. Success in any endeavor results from learning to do something right and then doing it right every time. The more consistently you perform, the better you get. The better you get, the higher you go. That's true of retina surgeons, that's true of mathematical technicians and that's true of Financial Advisors.
It's all about a repeatable process. Doing things on a consistent basis is mandatory. Both your survival and your success depend upon it. Without consistency, you are subject to the vagaries of the marketplace. You go wherever the market takes you. With consistency, you control your own fate.
I am going to give you a repeatable process that works. If you ignore the white noise and execute this process without fail, you will gather more assets than most Advisors in the world. This process is fun and is meant to be executed in sequence, day in and day out. The key to its implementation is will, not talent. As your career gains traction and you see your competitors without a repeatable process fall to the wayside, keep plugging away. Do not let the price of success be too steep for you. Let it be too steep for them. Let them accept mediocrity as a plateau. They have decided they don't have what it takes. They quit trying to be great. While your competition busies itself looking for shortcuts and secrets, you go about your job in a blue collar way, showing up every day and executing the basics.
Every skill at play in this process can be readily learned and constantly improved upon. There are no surprises; these are things you already do.
Now learn to do them better and learn to do them in the proper sequence. The better you get at these skills, the higher you go. If you want to be the best Financial Advisor in your town, be better at these skills than the others. If you want to be the best Advisor in the world, well, you know the story.
Here is your repeatable process. As the Nike ad says, just do it!
