Sales Idea: With Thanks to Marvin Brown
Since 1967, I have been trying to figure out the absolutely best way to get referrals. I have asked every expert imaginable how to get referrals. I have tried every idea ever presented to me on how to get referrals. I have read I don’t know how many articles and books that told me how to get referrals.
I’ve asked the experts. I’ve heard the really informed guys address the subject, guys like Marvin Brown, Bill Cates and Frank Maselli. At the other end of the spectrum, I heard a speaker say all I have to do is stop calling them referrals and start calling them acquaintances and I’d be rolling in names.
I’ve even asked Google. Google led me to a guy who told me that I can get referrals without begging for them. Another guy told me I can get referrals without even asking for them. Yet another guy told me he could sell me software that will make it easy for me to generate referrals. There is even a website called Referrals.com. I couldn’t get on the website for some reason, but I was assured that it is there. I’ve tried everything. I feel like Jerry Lewis in “The Errand Boy”; or maybe Captain Ahab; or maybe Sisyphus.
I must say, though, my time has not been wasted. To paraphrase Thomas Edison, I know 50,000 things that don’t work.
And, even though I can’t tell you the sure fire, satisfaction guaranteed or your money back way to get referrals without fail, I can tell you a few things that are integral to the process.
